This Weekend at IBW Lodge #1!

Greetings Earth People,

We have some events worth your time, energy, and - most importantly - your money, this weekend. Read on, intrepid creeps. 

That there DönerMen Truck is tonight. We're tapping BRAINWASH w/ Passionfruit & STUPID FOR JUPITER IPA for this. They are both tasting great!

DönerMen started with a simple idea; bring German Imbiss (street food) to the Chicago. Where Bavarian beer hall fare is what Americans have come to think of as German food, Imbiss is a popular and rich side of German cuisine that draws from various intersecting food cultures in Europe.
DönerMen is anthropology through food. Try Currywurst, a post-war Berlin invention combining Indian spices  and German sausage in one dish. Or try the other DönerMen stalwart, Döner Kebab, a marriage of flavors brought to Germany by Turkish immigrants.
Sound highfalutin? It’s not. You know how the U.S has tex-mex? This is sorta of a Ger-Turk. Or is it Turk-Ger? Either way it's delicious. 

I do believe they'll have some vegan options as well.
 

Saturday night, we've got some bands playing as part of their Summer tour for this depraved year of our lord 20 & 23. I don't know a ton about these folks, but I think it falls somewhere in the Shoegazer realm for one of the bands, and some pretty great sounding post-rock for another. Maybe there is something acoustic that is happening in there somewhere?

Who knows? IT's all a goddamn mystery. And, who doesn't like a good mystery? Why not come out and support a touring band offering you a FREE SHOW from the goodness of their broke and broken hearts? The show will start around 10pm.

ThIS SUNDAY, join "The Simpsons" maniac Mike Cusick as he takes your through 2 hours of Simpson's specific trivia. This is not for the casual viewer, but for you real sickos out there who know that little town of Springfield like Flander's knows his verse.

IL Craft Beer Week 2023 Events & More

It's time again for Illinois Craft Beer Week, that time of year when all of your passions come home to roost and a new generation of Airline pilots get their wings.

We have some events that are both specifically related to Craft Beer Week and coincidentally/marginally related to Craft Beer Week. Our suggestion is that you enjoy them all.

FRIDAY, MAY 19TH
Illinois Craft Beer Week begins today. Come on by and pick up a passport or get your passport stamped. 

The IL Craft Brewers Guild Summer Passport is back this year, a lovely physical booklet to document your summer of craft beer adventures. Quantities will be limited, so the race is on to visit your local brewery and secure your Summer Passport.

65 million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the earth… 30 years ago, a movie about dinosaurs came out that ruled the box office… Now, Recent Cutbacks performs a shot-for-shot remake of that movie, with just two actors and a foley artist. 

At 4pm on Sunday May 21st we’ll be getting a shortened LIVE PREVIEW of this fantastic show and then we’ll enjoy a screening of the original!

Orchard Village Seedling Sale THIS SUNDAY @ IBW Lodge #1

This Sunday, May 7th from 2pm - 6pm we're hosting a Seedling Sale to support Orchard Village and your friends and neighbors with developmental disabilities. Come enjoy a pop or two and pick up some seedlings for your summer garden all while supporting a wonderful group of people.

Events @ IBW for the Week of 3/26/2023!

The Spring Equinox came and went last week bringing the ecliptic and the celestial equator together at intersection accompanied by a fresh lunar cycle. It was a strange night, full of chaos and promises, promises that seemed to intone more and stranger days to come. 

I made a list, just off the top of my head, of all the nutty things going down over the past few weeks. I didn't try too hard and still managed to come up with a list that read like a talmudic laundry list on par with the Book of Names.

And right on the tippy-top most of the more disturbing listees was the construction now happening on the Kennedy expressway. Make no side bets, this is going to be a thorn in the mind of every north side Chicagoan for the next generation or two. I mean, the city is projecting 5 years on this project, but city construction years make dog years look like turtle lives.

And so we drink.

And fortunately for you lovely enthusiasts, we have put together a few more excuses for you to drink IBW beer, and to drink it here at America's playground for the rich and famous, IBW LODGE #1.

I'll get into that in just a second. But, for those of you who still haven't gotten your sea legs back to the world where people leave their house and enjoy the company of strangers, we did just package a few more beers so you can play the IBW home game. 

This week saw the return of the perennial favorites BRONY double dry-hopped double IPA as well as Kreeper IPA. 

We also dropped a new offering, HEART OF HEARTS, a Prickly Pear Farmhouse we're all pretty excited about.

These are all available to go in 4-packs at the Lodge or you can enjoy them on tap here as well. We started seeding them out to local bottle shops also, so you should start seeing those out in the wild today and tomorrow around the city and in the burbs early next week.

But, for you purveyors of True Grit, the brave souls who risk the hide of hares to indulge in the spontaneity of inter-personal interaction, we've got some great events for you right here at the place Harry Styles called "the last bastion of freedom for furries in these troubled times".

Tonight, we've got our weekly addition of MURDER BINGO with Handsome Rob. Join Rob as he guides you down the dark and depraved side of American cinema... and win some beer in the process! Murder Bingo is every Wednesday and starts at 9pm. This is strictly 21+ event, no exceptions. 

And, for the month of March, we're going to tally up the big winner from all 5 games this month and whoever has won the most bingos will win this "The Shining" board game. Can your life handle this much joy?

Tomorrow night, Thursday March 30th we've got the 4th installment of NIGHTBEAMS: AN EVENING OF MOSTLY MODULAR SYTNH JAMS featuring electronic sets from FESS GRANDIOSE, FUNCTIONLESS, A MILLION MILES AWAY and the inimitable ROBOTMANMACHINE. You can also enter to win an Accessory Bundle courtesy of the good folks over at SynthCity.

 The show starts at 8pm, I would suggest you get here a bit early to secure yourself some elbow room.

Friday night we've got an art show from Larry Dobson (aka SAME). Opening reception will be from 6pm - 10pm and then Larry will be back on Saturday from 3p - 6pm to answer questions and sell you original art.

Also, this Saturday, we'll be participating in the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt again from 11am - 1pm. Bring the kids by for some easter candy and pick up some adult beverages while you're here. This is a fun even for the kids and a great way to keep the kiddos happy while you hang out wit your friends and neighbors.

ALSO... please remember we've got our IBW Book Club next Wednesday, April 5th @ 8pm. This month we're discussing "The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires" by Gary Hendrix. If you don't have a copy yet, you can get one for 20% at the wonderful Bucket O' Blood book and record store in Avondale. Just let them know you're buying it for the IBW Book Club and they'll hook you up.
