Frozen Mind @ Chicago Psych Fest VIII This Weekend!

We're over our ski's with joy that we've been asked to make a beer for one of the best weekends in music here in Chicago. Chicago Psych Fest VIII: Frozen Mind will be at the Hideout Friday and Saturday night featuring Post-Animal, Magic Carpet, Daigonal and a whole bunch more psyche-rock monsters.

We brewed a batch of dreams to keep you warm & hydrated and to bring you back to earth should you freak too far the fuck out. FROZEN MIND is an 7.5% ABV winter farmhouse ale with a rich herbaceousness wrapped in citrus and pine. FROZEN MIND is available this weekend at Hideout's Psychfest VIII and a few other venues until it's gone.

If you're lame and don't want to come to the Hideout this weekend, we'll also be pouring at the Winter Ale Fest at Navy Pier.

Next week will see a new batch of our highly coveted 7% tart farmhouse, BRAINWASH, making it's ways out to your favorite Chicago bottle shops. Stay tuned for more info on where and when you can get that.

Alright, ladies and gentleman, let us prepare to not feel our faces!

Drink IBW & Support Planned Parenthood TONIGHT!

"He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man." - Samuel Johnson

In times of great misery, failure and embarrassment - you know, days like today - the best we can do is come together as a community of dying humanoids and drink too much.  IBW and the Green Lady have come together to help in that effort.

At 4pm today The Green Lady will tap our American Orange Ale Trumpty Dumpty.  All proceeds from sales of Trumpty Dumpty today will be donated to Planned Parenthood in the name of Mike Pence.  So, come take your medicine and join us, as a family, as we all salute our new candy colored clown president properly.

In more inspiring news, we've released some more of our very popular beer we produced in support of Drag City Records' Purling Hiss for their tour this past fall.  Here's the description:

"To celebrate "High Bias", the new Purling Hiss release on Drag City Records, IBW assembled our most loving homage to trashy, American macro-beers, just the kind of beer that built the fuzzy guitar rock of "High Bias". Purling Hiss is full of pilsner, munich, rice adjunct and noble hops creating a fizzy, yellow sleigh-ride that pairs well with brown meth, NASCAR and Jesus footies.  Enjoy it cold and fast before this whole hen house heads straight to Hell."

We may be too late on the hen house in Hell thing, but we can still drink.  Get this very limited release at:

  • Beer Temple
  • Vas
  • Bottles and Cans
  • Grand & Western
  • Liquor Park
  • Bitter Pops
  • Your Happy Place Liquors
  • Binnys Lakeview

For you nice folks outside of Chicago, you can get Purling Hiss on Beer Temple's website for shipment to most of the 48 states.

We've got a couple other bottle releases coming up in the next few weeks. Jinx Remover is a 5.1% Brett Pale Ale that we are quite proud of and works wonders at removing bad luck and hexes brought on from the Evil Eye. And Hasselhopf, an 8% Hopped-Up Farmhouse, will make it's bottle premier with an update to the recipe and a very handsome label you can use to impress your friends.

Stay tuned to this here email list or our Facebook page for specifics as those get released.

Ok. That's it. I've got nothing positive to offer you and no healing words. We're all doomed. The joke is over. Just tune those skills at your "duck & cover" technique and keep plenty of medicine on hand to smooth the corners.  In closing, I leave you with this:

"Who does vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush (and Donald Trump)? They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us—they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them.” - Hunter S. Thompson

P.S. Happy Birthday David Lynch!  RIP Miguel Ferrer.

Black Lodge & Son of Toucan Sam Available TODAY!

Just in time for your annual cold-weather bender this weekend, we pushed our entry-level cult slaves in the IBW bunker to package together two delicious holiday treats to help keep you swervy and warm.

Our first release is Son of Toucan Sam. This is a farmhouse we brewed in collaboration with Executive Chef Rodney Staton last winter.  We made an all munich grist and boiled it for 4 hours in the traditional style of bock beer. We then added Rodney's "fruity loops" spice blend to offer a citrus and earth nose. Fermented on Tim, our house yeast strain, we then put this beer into cabernet barrels for 9 months. The result is an exceptional and clean farmhouse that sets along side red meat like Starsky sat next to Hutch. Pro tip: we conditioned this on Brettanoymyces Bruxellensis so, while the beer is great now, if you hold it at cellaring temps for another 3 or 4 months this beer is going to enter a stratosphere all it's own.

This is an extremely rare batch of beer, only 10 cases are availble. You can get Son of Toucan Sam at:

  • Revival Food Hall
  • Bottles & Cans
  • Liquor Park
  • Binny's Marcey St.
  • Warehouse Liquors
  • Vas Foremost Liquors
  • West Lakeview Liquors
  • Grand & Western
  • Beer Temple

Our second offering that is on shelves today is our homage to Dale Cooper and his hard work done on the Blue Rose case for the cult TV show "Twin Peaks".  The Black Lodge is an 8.3% stout with Abacus coffee and sour cherry added after fermentation providing you with an insanely drinkabable, big-boned beer that is great for breakfast, second breakfast and even, if you are disciplined, dessert.

You can get Black Lodge at the following locations:

  • Beer Temple
  • Your Happy Place Liquors
  • Puerto Rico Food Liquors
  • Bitter Pops
  • Bottles  Cans
  • Beermiscuous
